In latest news, Marcus Stoinis has announced his retirement from the One-Day format effect immediately. Despite this retirement, the 35-year-old allrounder will continue to represent Australia in the T20I format. Stoinis had been named in Australia’s preliminary 15-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, set to take place in Pakistan and the UAE later this month.

However, Marcus Stoinis' decision to retire from the format implies that he will not be featuring in the ICC mega tournament and hence, will be replaced in the final squad. The announcement comes just days before the final squad is to be named by February 12.

While speaking on his decision, Stoinis said:

"Playing ODI cricket for Australia has been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every moment I’ve had in the green and gold. This wasn’t an easy decision, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away from ODIs and fully focus on the next chapter of my career.”

Stoinis' Contribution For The Australian Side

Stoinis has been quite a valuable player for Australia across all formats with explosive batting and being able to contribute with the ball. He recently played for the Durban Super Giants in South Africa's ongoing T20 franchise competition. But the hamstring mild injury, that occurred during the course of his bowling has indeed restrained him to perform to his maximum level.

He played 74 ODIs and was part of the 2023 World Cup-winning squad.
