Deepak Chahar’s move from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025 has been one of the talking points of the season. While the transition from one iconic franchise to another can be daunting, Chahar has settled in seamlessly and become a vital cog in MI’s bowling attack.
However, beyond Deepak Chahar's on-field contributions, Chahar has also embraced the lighter side of IPL life-most recently by leading MI’s infamous “Suit of Shame” pack with good humour.
Deepak Chahar Embraces MI’s Suit of Shame Tradition
A social media video released by Mumbai Indians showed Deepak Chahar donning the quirky “Suit of Shame” alongside teammates Reece Topley, Ryan Rickelton, Corbin Bosch, and others. Another picture revealed the quick posing like 'Superman' beside his wife Jaya Bhardwaj.
The suit, a superhero-themed jumpsuit emblazoned with the MI logo and cape, is a playful punishment meted out to players who arrive late for team meetings, practice sessions, or other commitments. Far from being embarrassed, Chahar sported the suit with a broad smile, setting the tone for his teammates to embrace the fun.
This tradition isn’t new to the IPL or MI. Last year, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan was famously seen wearing the same suit after a tardiness incident, turning the moment into a fan-favourite meme and symbol of team camaraderie.
Charming Chahar On The Field!
On the field, Deepak Chahar has been quietly effective for Mumbai Indians. Bowling alongside world-class pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, Chahar has complemented the attack with crucial breakthroughs. He managed to pack 9 wickets from his 11 matches while bowling at an economy rate of 9.19.
MI's Strong Show
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians have been in scintillating form this season, winning 7 out of 11 matches and boasting the best net run rate (+1.274). Their recent six-match winning streak has positioned them as strong contenders for the playoffs, with a balanced team effort across batting, bowling, and fielding.
