After years of setbacks, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have come back in a great way. Under the fresh leadership of Rajat Patidar, they’ve unleashed a dominant run and now have the playoffs firmly in their sights.
In the ongoing season, RCB has found in gem in Krunal Pandya as the all-rounder is showcasing excellence with both bat and ball. While hailing him, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar believes Krunal is more than ready to take on the captaincy role.
Gavaskar Backs Krunal For Leadership Role
After parting ways with Faf du Plessis, RCB placed their trust in Rajat Patidar, naming him their new captain. But apart from him, there was another strong contender for the role, Krunal Pandya, who has been a game-changer. In the ongoing season, Pandya has scored 97 runs along with 13 wickets. His unbeaten 73-run knock against DC pushed the franchise towards a dominating victory.
As the franchise announced Patidar as the skipper of the franchise, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar backed Pandya, suggesting the all-rounder not only deserves the captaincy but also has the leadership experience to thrive in the role.
“Krunal Pandya is an outstanding cricketer. Batting, bowling, fielding – he is in the game every single moment – Nobody considers him for captaincy, but with the kind of thinking that he has, often that leadership role will suit him well,” Pandya said.
RCB Is Just One Step Away From Playoffs
In the last 17 years, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have faced tough luck as their maiden IPL trophy is still a dream. But this year, the entire scenario changed under their new captain. After starting the tournament with a thrilling win over the Kolkata Knight Riders, they carried away their exceptional form.
In 10 matches, the Patidar-led franchise registered 7 victories and stands with 14 points on third position on the points table. For qualifying for the playoffs, they are just 2 points away. As they are set to face the Chennai Super Kings, they will try to grab those crucial 2 points to secure the playoff spot.
