As India prepares for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, a warm and emotional moment from Ranchi has taken over social media. Former India captain MS Dhoni hosted Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Ruturaj Gaikwad at his Ranchi residence on Thursday.

A special visit before the ODIs

With the Indian team arriving in Ranchi earlier this week, several players took time off their training schedule to meet Dhoni at his home and also had dinner with him. The visit came at an important time, especially as the team looks to regroup under KL Rahul’s leadership after a disappointing 0-2 Test series defeat to South Africa.

Pant, who has always looked up to Dhoni as a mentor, arrived with teammates, while Gaikwad, who will be seen playing with MS Dhoni in IPL 2026, was also present. Virat Kohli was also there and brought the loudest cheers from the fans gathered outside the residence.

Crowds waited outside MS Dhoni's house, cheering loudly as each player arrived. Photos and videos from the evening continued to flood social media, blending nostalgia, excitement and hope as India prepares for an important white-ball series.

What truly stole the spotlight was a short video that surfaced soon after the gathering. The clip shows MS Dhoni personally driving Kohli home in his personal car. Kohli is seen seated beside him and talking to him.

The heartwarming scene instantly went viral, fans on social media called it the 'moment of the year', celebrating the adorable bond between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni.

It is important to note that India will play a three-match ODI series against South Africa. So ahead of the upcoming series, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma began an intense training session in Ranchi ahead of the opener (November 30, 2025).

Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were also seen working hard in the nets after the Test series loss.
