Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, a prominent figure in contemporary cricket was photographed at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Monday night dressed in a religious attire.
Draped in traditional Ihram attire, he departed for Umrah, an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, with companions. A clip of his departure circulated widely on social media, reigniting discussions about his career and personal choices.
Siraj Embarks On Spiritual Journey
This marks Siraj’s third Umrah pilgrimage, having previously embarked on a spiritual trip in 2019 and 2022. His decision comes during a challenging phase in his professional journey.

Recently omitted from India’s 15-man squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, Siraj’s exclusion surprised fans and analysts, especially after his standout performance in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Siraj's Recent Setbacks
During the series, he emerged as India’s second-leading wicket-taker, scalping 20 wickets in 10 innings. Despite this form, he lost his place in the national setup for the marquee ICC event.
Adding to the setbacks, Siraj was released by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, ending his eight-year stint with the franchise. However, the pacer found a new home during the auctions, with Gujarat Titans securing his services for INR 12.25 crore.
Siraj's IPL Career
Across 93 IPL matches, Siraj has claimed 93 wickets at an average of 30.34 and an economy rate of 8.64. His best figures of 4/21 highlight his ability to deliver impactful spells, though consistency has occasionally eluded him.
With Gujarat Titans now banking on his experience, the franchise will hope his pace and swing bolster their bowling attack in the upcoming season. Siraj’s resurgence in the IPL could also reignite his chances of a national recall, blending his spiritual reset with a renewed focus on cricket.
