In a significant development, South Africa have been hit with fresh injury concerns ahead of the second Test against India, scheduled to begin on November 22 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. According to a report, Simon Harmer and left-arm fast bowler Marco Jansen have both picked up injuries that required medical examination before the team’s travel from Kolkata.
SA face two injury scares ahead of 2nd Test
It is important to mention that, according to a recent report by News18 CricketNext, Harmer is dealing with shoulder injury, while Jansen is carrying a minor niggle. Both players reportedly visited the Woodlands Hospital in Kolkata, the same hospital where Shubman Gill was treated for his neck injury during the first Test.
As of now, it remains unclear whether the injuries will affect Harmer and Jansen's participation in the upcoming second Test match.
Taking a look at their performance in the first Test, Harmer was the standout performer with the ball. He took eight wickets across two innings, maintaining an exceptional economy rate of 1.74 and a strike rate of 22.00. Jansen also delivered a strong performance, finishing with five wickets in the match with an economy of 2.27 and a strike rate of 26.00.
It is also vital to note that if Harmer fails to recover in time, South Africa have the option of calling in left-arm spinner Senuran Muthuswamy. On the other hand, Kagiso Rabada can be included if he recovers from the rib injury in place of Jansen. SA already lead the two-match series 1–0 and will hope their star bowlers recover in time.
India also facing injury concern
In the first Test match of the series, India suffered a dramatic collapse as they were bowled out for 93 runs in the fourth innings. India lost their openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, for just one run combined, and despite small contributions from Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, the home side fell short. Rishabh Pant also failed to fire when India needed him most.
India badly missed their captain, Shubman Gill, who had to leave the field midway through the match due to a neck injury.
