The AUS vs IND 2nd T20I was a disaster for the latter, as India recorded a defeat in the MCG clash after a rain washout in the first. This pushes India down the lead as the now-four-match contest sees Australia leading 1-0.
Nevertheless, the defeat was because of a shameful batting collapse from Team India, and out of all the chances missed, only Abhishek Sharma, India's opener, managed to get good numbers beside his name. After the match, he participated in the post-match press conference and added to his experience of facing Josh Hazlewood, the wrecker-in-chief for Australia in this match.
Abhishek on Head's advice and Hazlewood's talent
During the press conference, a reporter asked Abhishek that he spotted him and Travis Head having a conversation in the sidelines before the start of the game. Curious about the chat, the reporter asked whether Head gave any tip to Abhishek; the SRH star replied hilariously.
"I was trying because I knew that he was not going to give me much because he is the kind of batter that doesn't think too much. But I was still asking him about the pitch and everything, and he was just like, 'Go and enjoy,'" Sharma said.
When the reporter asked what kind of challenge does Josh Hazlewood pose, Abhishek was elaborate on lauding the Australia quick.
"I think as a batter I was watching him in the ODIs as well. So somehow, we knew he was going to make things this difficult. You already know the kind of challenges he brings, but the way he bowled today even surprised me. I haven’t seen anything like that in T20s before. It was something new for me as well because I’m a batter who always looks to dominate. But watching him bowl, even from the other end, it was clear he had a plan and was executing it perfectly," Sharma said.
Abhishek Sharma reacts to Hazlewood's Ashes news
However, the highlight of the post-match press conference was the golden reaction that Abhishek Sharma gave after he came to know that Hazlewood won't be playing the rest of the series because of Ashes warm-up. Sharma was speechless for a second and was almost about to smile hearing the news. Later, he smiled while hearing the news and shared his feelings about teh pacer's absence.
"Oh, is he? I didn’t know that... I mean, he’s good enough to play all formats, but I was actually enjoying the challenge because, as a batter, you have to face world-class bowlers, and that’s exactly what I was trying to do." Sharma added.
The next match for India's redemption will be played on November 2 on Sunday at Hobart, where the Suryakumar Yadav-led team will look forward to a gritty comeback to stay in contention for the series.
