In a significant development, Yashasvi Jaiswal has been added to Mumbai’s squad for their highly anticipated Ranji Trophy semi-final clash against Vidarbha, set to begin on Monday, February 17. The decision comes after Jaiswal was excluded from India’s Champions Trophy squad. It is important to mention that the star player was initially named in the squad but was later replaced by mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
Talking about his recent performance Jaiswal has scored 391 runs in nine innings during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. In his ODI debut against England, he faced 22 balls and scored 15 runs. However, he was not selected for the playing XI in the second and third ODIs.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Back To Play Ranji Trophy Semifinal
Despite missing out on the ICC event, Yashasvi Jaiswal will likely play an important role for Mumbai in the knockout stage. Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai stormed into the semifinals after a 152-run victory over Haryana in the quarter-finals at Eden Gardens.
"Jaiswal and Shivam Dube are among the non-travelling substitutes for the Champions Trophy. The inclusion of Yashasvi for this crucial game will be beneficial and will boost the Mumbai team’s morale,” Patil was quoted as saying by the Mid Day.
It is important to note that, Jaiswal last featured for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy group stage clash against Jammu and Kashmir. The dynamic batter failed to make significant contribution with the bat and managed to score just 4 and 26 runs.
Now, with a crucial semifinal ahead, the aggressive opener will be eager to make a stronger impact and lead Mumbai’s charge towards the Ranji Trophy title.
