Even before the start of the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025, both RCB and MI Women's side have been given injury jolts in the form of Pooja Vastrakar and Asha Sobhana. Both the key players for their side got injured ahead of the season, and with just a day left before the tournament, both the teams have got into a bit of crisis.
Mumbai Indians Women have replaced Pooja Vastrakar with Parunika Sisodia, while RCB have roped in Nuzhat Parween in place of Sobhana. The extend or type of injury is yet to be disclosed, but as per their respective medical teams, both the players will not be able to take further part in the upcoming WPL.
Parunika was a part of the Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the WPL, but will now play for the WPL champions of 2023 season. On the other hand, Parween is the wicket-keeper for Railways and has played for India in 5 T20Is, and will join the team on her base price of 30 lakh.
Sobhana played a key role in RCB's title campaign
Asha Sobhana was instrumental in RCB's title campaign during the 2024 season. The spinner turned out to be a mystery bowler for the opposition and scalped 12 wickets in 10 matches as RCB captured their maiden WPL title last year.
The team will miss her services, especially given the fact that she is a genuine wicket-taker in that team.
MI to miss Vastrakar's all-round abilities
Vastrakar is not only vital for India, but also for Mumbai Indians as well. In 16 matches for MI, she has scalped 7 wickets and has scored 126 runs as MI won the title in in the inaugural edition in 2023.
She can bowl with the new ball and can also clear the fence with ease and Parunika has big shoes to fill in her absence.
