Bangladesh, who got thrashed by England on Tuesday in their second ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, were found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the Dharamsala encounter.

Bangladesh was found one over short of their target after all time breaks were taken into consideration by ICC Elite Panel match referee Javagal Srinath. As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct For Players and Player Support Personnel, Bangladesh were fined 5 percent of their match fees.

The ruling states for every over-short, players will be deducted five percent of their match fees under minimum over-rate offences. Skipper Shakib Al Hasan accepted the sanction after pleading guilty, as no formal hearing took place.

On-field umpires Ahsan Raza, Paul Wilson, third umpire Adrian Holstock and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena leveled the slow over-rate charges.

Bangladesh failed to chase down a mammoth 365-run target set by defending champions England at HPCA Stadium, and folded for 227, handing Jos Buttler and Co. their maiden win in the tournament.

Bangladesh won their opening match against Afghanistan quite comfortably and now have one win and one loss, placed sixth in the points table.

The Bangla Tigers will now travel to Chennai and face table-toppers New Zealand on October 13 at Chepauk.

New Zealand have won both their matches and have looked in-prime form despite regular skipper Kane Williamson sitting out. Bangladesh take on hosts India on October 19 in Pune.
