The question is about to get real! Will Daniel Vettori choose to stay with the Australian team for the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test in Perth, or head to Jeddah for the IPL mega auction? The assistant coach for Australia’s team is also the head coach for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and this year, he can’t do both like he did before.

Daniel Vettori Faces Tough Choice Between IPL Auction and Australia’s Perth Test

With the IPL auction dates colliding with the Perth Test, it’s a tough call, and one that’s caught everyone’s attention. Here’s the situation: the first Test between India and Australia runs from November 22-26 in Perth, while the IPL auction is set for November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Vettori and Cricket Australia (CA) are in a bit of a bind, as he has to choose one. It’s no easy call since both are major commitments, and Daniel Vettori’s presence at the auction could impact SRH’s strategy.

Vettori’s Contract with Cricket Australia

Vettori’s deal with CA gives him a bit of freedom which allows him to balance his role as assistant coach with gigs in leagues like the IPL and The Hundred. He has a set number of days he must commit to CA, but outside of that, he can work with franchises like SRH. It’s a flexible deal that acknowledges the lure of the T20 leagues, which wasn’t the case in the past.

Will It Be Jeddah or Perth?

As of today, November 13, CA still hasn’t made the final call. According to The Age, it’s not certain if Vettori will stay with the team in Perth or fly out for the auction.

It’s a scenario that shows how things have shifted in the cricketing world. Not long ago, it would have been unthinkable for an Australian coach to juggle priorities like this. But here we are, and the IPL’s pull is undebatable.

If Vettori does head to the auction, no one would be surprised. SRH is his team, and he has a huge role in their player strategy. Some Aussie players might even be more focused on the auction than the game itself, especially with big IPL contracts on the line. For now, we wait to see if Vettori will be on SRH’s auction table or in the dugout at Perth.
