Gujarat Titans is set to host the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on May 13 for their final home game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. Interestingly, Shubman Gill and co. will be donning a lavender kit for the match, thus making way from their traditional blue jerseys.

The Titans also wore a similar kit back in IPL 2023 during their final home game of the league stage against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Here at OneCricket, we take a look as to why the Gujarat Titans franchise will be breaking their traditional theme to wear a lavender jersey against KKR on May 13.

Why will Gujarat Titans wear Lavender against KKR?

Gujarat Titans players will be wearing a lavender jersey against KKR in their final home game of the season in order to raise awareness against cancer. This will be the second successive year where the franchise will be wearing an altered kit as part of their initiative against the disease.

The Gujarat Titans franchise recently stated:

“This gesture will serve as a reminder of the importance of early detection and access to quality care for improving outcomes in patients of cancer.”

Team captain Shubman Gill also signified the cause and said that it is the “social responsibility” of the players to raise awareness and spread education to the community.

Back in IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans players donned the lavender kit against SRH at Ahmedabad during their final home game of the league stage. Gill smacked a 58-ball century while fast bowlers Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma stacked up four-wicket hauls to consign SRH to a 34-run defeat.

As of now, Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans is languishing at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table. They have secured just four wins amidst seven defeats from 11 games so far this season.
