The Men's Selection Committee of Team India recently announced a 15-member squad for India’s tour of Zimbabwe, starting from July 6, 2024.

This tour, featuring five T20Is in Harare, marks India’s first assignment following the ongoing T20 World Cup. Shubman Gill, who served as a reserve player during the T20 World Cup 2024, will lead the team and it was expected that uncapped Nitish Kumar Reddy will get an opportunity to showcase his talent.

However, a significant change occurred just two days after the initial squad announcement. Young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the squad.

Why Is Nitish Kumar Reddy Out Of Zim Series?

Nitish Kumar Reddy, the 21-year-old from Visakhapatnam, who had an impressive IPL 2024 season with the SunRisers Hyderabad, earned his maiden India call-up but will now have to wait for his international debut due to an injury.

Nitish Reddy, known for his consistent middle-order composure and ability to bowl over 130 kph, was awarded the Emerging Player of the Year in IPL 2024. 

Despite his promising performance, the specifics of his injury have not been disclosed by the BCCI. The board's medical team is currently monitoring his progress.

Shivam Dube has been named as Reddy's replacement in the squad. This decision was made by the Ajit Agarkar-led senior selection committee. Dube’s inclusion aims to bolster the team as they face Zimbabwe from July 6 to 16 at the Harare Sports Club.

Reddy's absence is a setback, but his potential as a fast-bowling all-rounder remains promising. The young talent will continue to be under the watchful eyes of the BCCI and NCA, hoping to make a comeback once fully recovered.
