De Villiers to play in Champions Trophy? [Source: @icc/x.com]
AB De Villiers, the South African legend is set to make his comeback on a cricket field nearly 4 years after he announced his official retirement from all formats. He last represented RCB in the IPL 2021 season and since then has enjoyed a happy retirement life. De Villiers will represent the Game Changers South Africa Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL).
Interestingly, de Villiers will lead the team and it will be after many years that the fans will witness arguably one of the best cricketers ever to play in front of a jam-packed crowd. The Proteas legend announced his international retirement in 2018 and surprisingly, unlike many, he retired from the game at the prime of his career.
Fans are eagerly waiting for his much-awaited return, but the question now arises - since he will make his comeback for South Africa, will he also represent the senior team in the Champions Trophy 2025?.
Will ABD play in Champions Trophy?
Unfortunately, AB De Villiers has only decided to make his comeback in franchise league, and that is for this season only. He hasn't hinted anything on his South African comeback as the former captain is still retired from international cricket. Many fans wish to see him in the Champions Trophy, but even if an injury takes place, de Villiers won't be selected, unless he reverses his retirement decision.
When will WCL take place?
The World Championship of Legends will commence in July 2025. The competition will reportedly begin on July 18 and will continue till August 2. A host of legendary players from different countries will take part in the league.
