Nitish Kumar Reddy emerged as one of the most promising young players in IPL 2024 and played some handy knocks at number four. He also bowled medium pace and picked three wickets, and then went onto play for India because of his multidimensional ability.

A seam-bowling all-rounder is a rare asset in Indian cricket, and that helped him take an upward flight in Indian cricket quite quickly. He impressed both with bat and ball in his inaugural T20 series and then went onto play Test cricket in Australia where he was used quite a lot with the ball as well.

IPL's Impact Player Rule Diminishing Value Of All-Rounders

However, he is not bowling in IPL 2025, and one of the main reasons for it is that he is coming into this edition after an injury layoff. He missed cricket for India after the BGT due to side strain, and thus it seems that the management and the player himself does not want to put more stress on the body.

Also, the Impact Player rule in IPL helps his cause. A team can always get an extra bowler or batter whenever they need, and thus Nitish Kumar Reddy's bowling has not been missed. The pitches in IPL too are generally flat or assist tweakers, and thus Pat Cummins has preferred to use Abhishek Sharma, the spinner instead of an all-rounder who bowls medium pace.

SRH also have option of Travis Head, Kamindu Mendis in their line-up who can bowl spin, thus with plenty of options and workload management in focus, Nitish Kumar Reddy has not bowled in IPL 2025 so far.
