Why Is Irfan Pathan Not Doing Commentary For KKR vs RCB IPL 2025 Match?

The 18th edition of IPL has kickstarted in Eden Gardens as defending champions KKR took on RCB in the opening match of the tournament. It has been a blockbuster event as the BCCI organised a Magnus opus opening ceremony that featured all the members part of the tournament.

Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has hogged social media as the fans failed to spot him in the commentator's list released by the BCCI  when they also announced new rules for the upcoming season. Further, the southpaw also was nowhere to be seen in the opening match.

Irfan Pathan Sacked From Commentary

For the unversed, it is worth noting that Pathan, who served as Disney Hotstar's match presenter for a long, has been reportedly sacked after complaints from several active Indian cricketers. A report from MyKhel mentioned that several Indian cricketers complaint against Pathan and accused the former cricketer of biased reporting and running an agenda. 

According to MyKhel, one player even blocked Pathan’s number on his phone reportedly irked at hearing the latter’s comments on him during the Australia series.

“Otherwise, his (Pathan’s) name would have been there. It’s been happening for the last two years as he was carrying his personal agendas against certain players and that didn’t go down well with the system," a source was quoted as saying by the website.

It is not the first time that such incident has occurred as Sanjay Manjrekar too has faced a similar fate in the past. The fans also linked Pathan's sacking with Virat Kohli as Irfan had criticised Kohli's form during Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024. Talking about the match, at the time of writing this article, KKR are 108/2 after 10 overs.
