Team India led by Rohit Sharma landed in Thiruvananthapuram for their second ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 warm-up encounter against the Netherlands, but were sans their star batter Virat Kohli.

Kohli upon special request asked the team management for a private break and headed to Mumbai from Guhawati due to a personal emergency.

The former India captain is expected to rejoin the contingent today (October 2) and will be available to face the Netherlands on October 3 at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.

As quoted by Cricbuzz, an unnamed BCCI source did confirm that Kohli went back to Mumbai for personal reasons.

"Virat will rejoin the team soon," a BCCI source said.

Meanwhile, it has been reportedly said the former captain and wife, Anushka Sharma, are expecting their second child after Vamika.

The Indian World Cup squad along with support staff reached Thiruvananthapuram after a four-hour long slight from Guwahati on Sunday evening. Team India has scheduled their first practice session today, which optional one given the weather eases up as said by an official spokesperson.

"Team India will have an optional training session from 2 PM onwards at the KCA - St Xavier's College Cricket Ground, Thiruvananthapuram, weather permitting."

India's first warm-up against England got washed out due to rain, and the chances of a similar event happening against the Netherlands is quite likely, given the weather forecast. India starts its World Cup 2023 campaign on October 8 and takes on five-time winners Australia in Chennai.
