The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently made headlines with the announcement of the extension of head coach Rahul Dravid's contract, along with his coaching staff. This decision came after much speculation about the possibility of a new coach for the Indian cricket team following the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup 2023. While details about the length of Dravid's extended contract remain undisclosed, it is evident that the parties involved reached a mutual agreement.

Amidst these developments, BCCI approached Ashish Nehra, the current coach of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), to consider taking on the role of head coach for the national T20 team. However, Nehra declined the offer, citing his unwavering commitment to honor his contract with the Gujarat Titans until 2025.

Sources confirmed to NDTV  that Nehra's rejection was based on his desire to fulfill his existing obligations with the IPL franchise. A report from news agency PTI shed light on the reasons behind Nehra's decision, emphasizing his long-standing commitment to Gujarat Titans.

Ashish Nehra, known for his straightforward approach, has consistently expressed his dedication to Gujarat Titans and has no immediate intentions of taking on the demanding role of head coach for the national team. The former fast bowler highlighted his priorities, stating that he is not prepared to live a life on the road extensively, especially with a young family.

Nehra's focus is currently on his IPL coaching responsibilities, amounting to two and a half months each year. While he has ruled out the head coach position for the national team at this juncture, he has left the door open for a potential role as a white-ball coach in the future when the timing aligns with his personal and professional considerations.
