The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 9 with a thrilling finale between Team India and New Zealand. While the ‘Men in Blue’ walked away with the coveted silverware, a couple of New Zealand players also bagged some big honours at the Champions Trophy podium.
With Rachin Ravindra winning the ‘Golden Bat’ for hauling the highest number of runs among all players in the tournament, here is a look at the player who clinched the ‘Golden Ball’ award for securing the most wickets in the three-week long event.
Who Won The Golden Ball In Champions Trophy 2025?
New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry won the ‘Golden Ball’ for his exceptional wicket-taking spree at the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Remarkably, the 33-year-old played three of his four matches of the tournament on tough high-scoring Pakistani surfaces. Moreover, Henry could have added a few more wickets to his tally, if not for the injury that ruled him out of New Zealand’s title clash against Team India at the Dubai International Stadium.
In his previous meeting against India at the same venue during the opening round of the competition, Matt Henry picked up five wickets at an expense of just 42 runs in eight overs.
Overall, the New Zealand speedster finished his 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign with 10 wickets from just four innings at an impressive bowling average of 16.70, finding himself a wicket ahead of Varun Chakravarthy, Mohammed Shami and national teammate Mitchell Santner (nine wickets each). He also maintained an economy rate of just 5.32, despite spending a majority of his tournament campaign on the flatbeds of Pakistan.
However, it is important to note that there was no official announcement for Golden Ball award during the recent edition as it had happened in 2013 and 2017.
Champions Trophy Golden Ball Winners List
Ever since the inception of ICC Champions Trophy back in 1998, certain bowlers have played pivotal roles in shaping the tournament’s narrative. Here is a look at all the Golden Ball winners in Champions Trophy:
Year | Winner (wickets) | Team |
---|---|---|
1998 | Jacques Kallis (8) | South Africa |
2000 | Venkatesh Prasad (8) | India |
2002 | Muttiah Muralitharan (10) | Sri Lanka |
2004 | Andrew Flintoff (9) | England |
2006 | Jerome Taylor (13) | West Indies |
2009 | Wayne Parnell (11) | South Africa |
2013 | Ravindra Jadeja (12) | India |
2017 | Hasan Ali (13) | Pakistan |
2025 | Matt Henry (10) | New Zealand |
As per Champions Trophy history, former West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor (2006) and Pakistan paceman Hassan Ali (2017) have claimed the highest number of wickets in a single edition of the tournament with 13 scalps each. While Matt Henry’s 10-wicket haul in 2025 fell short of the overall Champions Trophy record, his fighting performance throughout the eight-team event will certainly go down as one of the finest in tournament history.
