IPL is over but the T20 mania isn't Alongside several state-operated T20 leagues, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is also underway. Notably, TNPL has been a breeding ground for talented bowlers since its inception in 2016 from where talented bowlers also migrated to IPL and even national-level games. 

With the tournament in its early stage, here’s a look at the top five wicket-takers who have left an indelible mark on the tournament with their consistent performances and match-winning spells.

5. Sonu Yadav - 66 Wickets

R Sonu Yadav rounds off the top five, with 66 wickets in 56 matches. His best performance of 5/30 demonstrates his ability to produce match-winning spells. A right-arm medium pacer, Yadav’s average of 21.57 and economy of 8.08 reflect his aggressive bowling style. 

Playing for teams like Chepauk Super Gillies and Nellai Royal Kings, Sonu Yadav has consistently troubled batters with his pace and swing. He also created history with his recent hat-trick in his first match of TNPL, already impressing cricket fans.

4. RS Shah - 69 Wickets

RS Shah has been a consistent performer in the TNPL, picking up 69 wickets in 64 matches. A right-arm medium pacer, Shah’s best bowling figures of 4/12 highlight his potential to run through batting line-ups. 

With an average of 22.15 and an economy rate of 6.96, he maintains a good balance between wicket-taking and run containment. Shah’s experience with teams like Chepauk Super Gillies and Ruby Trichy Warriors has made him a vital part of their bowling attacks.

3. Athisayaraj Davidson - 72 Wickets

Athisayaraj Davidson’s rise in the TNPL has been impressive, with 72 wickets in 49 matches. His left-arm orthodox spin has been instrumental for teams like Nellai Royal Kings and Trichy Titans. R Sai Kishore leads the pack as the highest wicket-taker in TNPL history, claiming 79 wickets across 60 matches. Known for his crafty spin, Sai Kishore has been a vital weapon for teams like Chepauk Super Gillies and Ruby Trichy Warriors and currently plays for ITT. His best bowling figures of 5/13 highlight his ability to turn games single-handedly. 

With an impressive average of 18.34 and an economy rate of 6.41, Sai Kishore combines wicket-taking ability with tight bowling, making him a consistent threat in the middle overs just like he did in IPL. His knack for breaking crucial partnerships has earned him multiple four and five-wicket hauls too, marking him as the highest wicket-taker of this tournament and an important momentum shifter.
