Entering a deal, regardless of its nature, with the all-powerful Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is no mean feat. Entering a sponsorship deal, no less, is an even bigger achievement considering the massive numbers Team India attracts and the colossal fanbase they command at all times.

Back in 2015, India’s digital payment company Paytm did just that when they signed a lucrative sponsorship deal with the BCCI. While the original deal lasted four years, the company retained their sponsorship rights in 2019 for an even bigger amount.

When Paytm became the face of India’s home matches

In 2015, digital payments major Paytm signed a title sponsorship deal with the BCCI for four years. The deal valued a staggering amount of Rs. 203 crores, which roughly translated to Rs. 2.4 crore per game for all matches organised by the BCCI in India.

Four years down the line, in August 2019, Paytm won another bid to renew their title sponsorship deal with the BCCI, this time doing so with an even bigger amount of Rs. 326.80 crores. The new deal translated to the amount of Rs. 3.80 crore for one match, thus marking a 58 percent jump from the previous deal.

Paytm’s title sponsorship for the BCCI eventually came to a conclusion, when payments and technology company Mastercard outbid them in August 2022.
