Tasmania cricketer Charlie Wakim plucked a stunning one-handed boundary catch to dismiss Western Australian skipper Sam Whiteman during their high-scoring Marsh Cup 2024 thriller at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval.

On top of his sensational fielding efforts, Wakim also clubbed a 53-ball 68 during Tasmania’s entertaining attempt at a daunting run-chase later in the game.

Turning up for Tasmania in match number 20 of the 2024 Marsh Cup, Charlie Wakim was stationed at mid-wicket boundary during the slog overs of the Western Australia innings upfront. In the first ball of a fresh Billy Stanlake over, Western Australian captain Sam Whiteman, batting on 49* at the time, hoicked the speedster towards the mid-wicket boundary.

However, Whiteman’s confident hit was prevented by an agile Wakim from going over the ropes, as the Tasmanian fielder soared above with his outstretched arm to hold on to the ball.

While Charlie Wakim’s sensational fielding effort curtailed Sam Whiteman’s threatening stay at the crease, Western Australia still racked up 320-4 on the board by the completion of their 50 overs.

Chasing a monumental total in the run-chase, Wakim bludgeoned 68 runs from just 53 balls to top-score in the innings alongside captain Jordan Silk (61). Despite listing attacking 60s, Tasmania fell 52 runs short of their target to slump to their fourth defeat of the tournament.
