The stage is set to the most enthralling and important T20 game of the year which is the 2024 T20 World Cup finals scheduled to be played between India and South Africa at Barbados later today.

India and South Africa dominated in their respective semi-finals to set up the big clash. While the Proteas will be playing their first ever ICC tournament finals, the men in blue will aim to end the decade long ICC trophy drought.

That being said, India and South Africa’s head to head record in T20s is close with India winning 14 games off the 26 played whereas Proteas secured 11 contests. Hence, the upcoming clash will be a mouth watering contest in Barbados.

Meanwhile, India and South Africa have rarely played in the West Indies. Hence, let’s look at the last time the two sides clashed at a venue in the Windies.

When India Played Vs South Africa In Gros Islet, St. Lucia In 2010

India and South Africa last clashed at Gros Islet in the 2010 T20 World Cup group stage. The men in blue batted first and Suresh Raina scripted history with a scintillating century batting at no.3.

Yuvraj Singh also contributed with 37 runs off 30 balls and courtesy to MS Dhoni’s 16 runs finish, India finished with a 186 runs total in the first innings. For SA, Rory Kleinveldt and Albie Morkel were the most expensive, with over 12.00 economy.

India Held Nerves To Claim A 14-Run Victory

Jacques Kallis and Graeme Smith gave the perfect start to South Africa with a 90-run partnership for the second wicket. However, just when the Proteas shifted gears, Piyush Chawla’s golden arm got Kallis in the 17th over.

With the required run rate soaring, AB de Villiers fought hard with 31 runs off 15 balls but fell short of 14 runs in the 187 runs chase. Suresh Raina was rightly awarded man of the match awards for his historic century.
