India's head coach, Rahul Dravid, has revealed that the team has engaged in extensive discussions with the seasoned batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, regarding the challenging English conditions.

Pujara, who has been stationed in England for the past couple of months, gained valuable experience while playing county cricket for Sussex during a period when most of his Indian teammates were participating in the Indian Premier League.

The 35-year-old stalwart, entrusted with leading Sussex this year, showcased splendid form, marking his second successive season as their best batter. The right-hander's exceptional exploits for Sussex include a remarkable feat of three centuries during the current campaign. Furthermore, his outstanding contributions last year featured an astounding tally of 1094 runs in the County Championship, comprising three double centuries.

With the highly anticipated World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia on the horizon, Dravid expressed the team's proactive approach in seeking Pujara's insights regarding ideal tactics for navigating the English conditions.

Drawing from his experiences in leading Sussex and his interactions with county bowlers, Pujara's strategic acumen has been viewed as a valuable asset in preparing for the upcoming challenge at The Oval in London.

“We’ve had conversations with Pujee - about captaincy, about obviously batting, but also he leads Sussex. So he’s also got a good handle on things in terms of the kind of tactics and the strategy that’s used by a lot of the county bowlers that he’s played with," said Dravid while speaking to the reporters ahead of the WTC Final.

The Indian coach emphasized that while incorporating Pujara's insights, the team remains committed to maintaining the fundamentals of their game. He stated that any adjustments made will not deviate drastically from the core principles that underpin the team's approach to the game.

“So we’ve had some conversations and discussions obviously with him in and around that and we’ll see how we can maybe incorporate some of that. Doesn’t drastically change some of the basics of the game. They always remain the same," said Dravid.

Pujara will be a vital cog for India at number three. His experience of playing in the County Championship will be valuable for Team India.
