West Indies all-rounder Yannic Cariah has suffered a nasal fracture ahead of the team’s opening World Cup 2023 Qualifier match against the United States. The cricketer was injured during a training session in Zimbabwe.

Cariah to be re-assessed in few days

A day prior to West Indies’ match against the United States, Cricket West Indies announced that their in-form all-rounder Yannic Cariah had sustained a nasal fracture after being struck on the face during a team training session.

Despite the injury, the 30-year-old will remain in Zimbabwe with the team. Cricket West Indies also revealed that Cariah will be re-assessed in a few days in a bid that the cricketer makes a comeback to the national side in the coming days.

The Trinidadian spinner recently claimed successive four-wicket hauls in West Indies warm-up games in Harare. Earlier this month, he also troubled the UAE batters to drive his side to a 3-0 series win in Sharjah.

Having made his international debut last year, Cariah has turned up in eight ODIs and two T20I matches so far for West Indies and claimed ten wickets across both formats. While still relatively new at the international level, the leg-spinner holds a legion of experience for Trinidad and Tobago through domestic competitions within the Caribbean.

In the meantime, the West Indies team, under Shai Hope, is clubbed in Group A of the World Cup 2023 Qualifier alongside Zimbabwe, Nepal, Netherlands and the United States. The finalists of the tournament will earn direct entry to the 2023 ODI World Cup, slated to be played in India later this year.
