The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Morne Morkel as bowling coach of the senior men’s team. The former South African speedster will travel with the Pakistan team for a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka next month.

Morkel has penned a six-month deal with the PCB, and his tenure will also include the 2023 ODI World Cup, set to be played in India later this year.

Morkel to joins Pakistan coaching staff for SL tour

The PCB announced Morne Morkel’s appointment as team’s bowling coach on Friday, June 16. The following day, the board unveiled their 16-player squad for the Test series in Sri Lanka.

Morkel is slated to join the team for the Sri Lankan tour, where he will be working alongside head coach Grant Bradburn. Moreover, Andrew Puttick will be serving as the batting coach of the side.

The former South African pacer recently served as the bowling coach of the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023 season. Under his regime, the team made it to the playoffs, despite missing their senior captain KL Rahul.

Meanwhile, the Tests in Sri Lanka will be played in July and form a part of the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. Morkel’s subsequent coaching assignment will likely feature the much-awaited Asia Cup in August, which itself will serve as team’s dress rehearsal for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
