West Indies vs Australia (Source:@raeesalam286,x.com)
In a significant development, a West Indies cricketer, part of the national men’s team, has been named in multiple serious allegations of sexual misconduct, including rape and sexual assault. The accusations were first reported by Guyanese outlet Kaieteur News and later amplified by SportsMax TV. The incident involves at least eleven women, one of them reportedly a teenager.
The news comes as the West Indies men’s team is in the midst of a crucial three-Test series against Australia, with the first Test currently underway at Kensington Oval, Barbados. Despite a promising performance on the field, the team is now grappling with an off-field trouble that could have major legal and reputational consequences.
Serious Allegations On West Indies Cricketer
The central allegation was brought forward by a young woman from Berbice, Guyana. Additional women have since come forward, alleging incidents of sexual assault, inappropriate behavior, and harassment. In total, Kaieteur News claims that no fewer than 11 women have made accusations.
In a report titled 'Monster in Maroon,' the newspaper alleges a possible cover-up aimed at protecting the cricketer. According to SportsMax TV, several victims believe the matter has been deliberately buried by authorities, possibly with cooperation or knowledge of influential figures in cricket administration.
Legal Stalemate And Investigation
Attorney Nigel Hughes, who represents the family of one of the alleged victims, confirmed that the first complaint was filed two years ago, and that the DPP in Guyana had recommended charges. However, these recommendations appear to have been ignored or delayed.
When contacted for comment, Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow said the board was unaware of the specific allegations and declined to make further statements.
“Cricket West Indies is unaware of the circumstances and, therefore, is not in a position to comment at this time,” Shallow said.
No official update on the case has been released, but renewed public and legal interest may force a more transparent inquiry.
On the field, the WI and Australia are locked in a tightly contested first Test in Barbados. After dismissing Australia for 180, the WI took a slender 10-run lead, with the visitors ending Day 2 at 92/4 in their second innings.
