Superstar Indian cricketer Virat Kohli stressed on the importance of KL Rahul's knock against Afghanistan, stating that the latter's form will be crucial to India's fortunes in the upcoming T20I World Cup.

Rahul endured a poor Asia Cup campaign as he managed just 132 runs in 5 innings at an average of 26.4 and a strike rate of a shade over 120.

The stylish opener found form in the dead-rubber game against Afghanistan as he scored a fluent 41-ball 62 during a 119-run stand with Kohli.

Kohli, who smashed his maiden T20I ton on Friday, stressed on the importance of KL Rahul being in a good space of mind in the lead-up to the World Cup.

The former skipper went on to heap high praise on Rahul, stating that the team gets even stronger when he is in full flow.

Here's what Virat Kohli told Rohit Sharma:

"I think we should not ignore his (Rahul's) knock because we know how important it is for KL to be in a good space as well heading into the (T20) World Cup. We all know what he can do in this format. He plays very clean and solid shots, and once he bats well in T20 cricket then our team looks even more strong."

Can Rahul regain his rhythm ahead of the T20 World Cup?

While the Asia Cup may not have gone as per plans for KL Rahul, the stylish opener will now look to take the positives from his knock against Afghanistan into the home series against Australia and South Africa.

Rahul has struggled to find rhythm ever since he returned to the side during the Zimbabwe series following a long layoff due to injury.

While questions continue to persist over his place in the playing XI as an opener and his overall approach, the right-handed batter will look to shrug them off when he takes guard against the Aussies in Mohali on September 20.
