Pakistan skipper Babar Azam admitted that his side's batting performance in the Super-4 fixture against Sri Lanka 'wasn't up to the mark' and that the think-tank will sit back and analyse where they went wrong ahead of the all-important Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday.
For the second game in a row, Pakistan's batting was found wanting as they got knocked over for a mere 121 in the final over.
Azam's poor form continued as he struggled for timing and rhythm through his 29-ball stay (for 30 runs), and with Mohammad Rizwan registering a low score, the middle-order was once again exposed by the Lankan spinners.
Babar admitted that Pakistan need to bat better during the middle-overs unlike what they have dished out in the last two games.
Here's what Babar Azam said after Pakistan's 5-wicket defeat to Sri Lanka:
"Our batting wasn't up to the mark after the powerplay. We couldn't build on We played well in both games, but the batting has not been up to the mark.. This was definitely a good learning experience, we will sit back and analyse this game, and see where we can improve for Sunday," as quoted by India Today.
''Impressed with our fast bowlers''- Babar Azam
Chasing 122, Sri Lanka were rocked early in the powerplay as they were reduced to 2-2 and then 29-3 by the pace duo of Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain. However, opener Pathum Nissanka ensured that he took his side home with yet another pristine half-century.
Babar was full of praise for his young bowlers in addition to lauding Hasan Ali, who returned with figures of 0-25 (3) in his comeback game.
"But surely impressed with our fast bowlers, Pakistan has always produced good pacers - the way Hasan made a comeback today was good."
Pakistan will look to stage a comeback on Sunday when they meet Sri Lanka again for the Asia Cup title.
