Mumbai Indians slipped to their third successive defeat this IPL 2024 season by coming up short to Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.

After the match, the local crowd unequivocally bashed newly-appointed skipper Hardik Pandya by blaming him for the team’s unwanted string of defeats.

Moreover, several fans also called for the reappointment of the previous captain and five-time IPL winner Rohit Sharma, claiming that Mumbai Indians will restore its former glory under the command of their most decorated leader.

Rohit Sharma fans express outrage, abuse Hardik Pandya

A legion of Rohit Sharma supporters and Mumbai Indians followers consigned the blame for the team’s third successive defeat to newly-appointed skipper Hardik Pandya. A number of them even directed abuses at the all-rounder, as they passionately and aggressively called for the re-appointment of Sharma.

As it turned out, Hardik Pandya’s performance against Rajasthan Royals itself served as a saving grace for Mumbai Indians amidst fervent calls for Rohit Sharma’s reinstatement.

After Mumbai Indians slipped to 20-4 inside the first four overs, Pandya and Tilak Varma scored blistering 30s to restore some respectability to the total. Their collective efforts before another lower-order collapse rushed the Indians total to 125-9 by the completion of their 20 overs.

Rohit Sharma was the first man to depart earlier in the innings as he was accounted by Rajasthan Royals new-ball speedster Trent Boult for a first-ball duck.

The Royals overhauled their measly task with six wickets and 27 deliveries to spare, thus consigning Mumbai Indians unit to its third successive defeat this IPL 2024 season. Hardik Pandya and co. will now face Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 7.
