Cricketers across the globe enjoy their own fandom, but for Virat Kohli, the picture is slightly different. Every glimpse of him on the field sparks excitement, and fans seize any chance to see the star up close, never letting the moment slip away.
The cricket world has seen enough examples of fans invading the field just to touch Kohli, and Rajkot was no exception. As India faced New Zealand in the second ODI at that venue, a fan entered the field to fulfill his ‘Virat Kohli’ dream.
Fans risk it all for a glimpse of Kohli in Rajkot
Virat Kohli’s craze among fans can’t be described in words, as they never treated him just as a player. Where the fans are crazy for his one glimpse, now the wait has become longer after he retired from Test and T20Is. After wrapping up the ODI series against South Africa last year, King Kohli has returned to the field in the ongoing 50-over series against New Zealand.
During the second ODI in Rajkot, another fan moment took place. While chasing down the total in the second innings, Virat Kohli was seen fielding in the boundary line, and fans were enjoying every glimpse of him. But one fan took the craziest step just to meet his idol.
In between the match, he breached the security and ran straight away to his idol just to touch him. Reaching in front of Kohli, he hugged the former Indian captain. As the fan’s smile was saying everything, the moment grabbed the attention.
Kohli’s simple act melts hearts
Soon after that, the security personnel rushed to the field to take away the fan, but Virat Kohli’s gesture won hearts. With a simple hand signal, he urged them to handle the situation gently, and the fan was escorted off peacefully. After the video went viral, the world praised his kindness.
As the fan fulfilled his dream, Rajkot missed King Kohli’s brilliance. While batting first, Team India faced a bizarre slump. Coming in at number three, Kohli had an unusual outing, scoring 23 runs off 29 balls before departing.
Rahul’s century isn’t enough as New Zealand levels the series
After a thrilling victory in the first ODI match of the three-match ODI series, Team India aimed to secure the series with another win, but the Kiwis flipped the script. Batting first, India stumbled through a strange slump, yet KL Rahul stood firm like a rock. Anchoring the innings, he smashed an unbeaten 112 off 92 balls, guiding India to a competitive total of 284.
While defending the total, their bowling unit faltered against New Zealand’s batting brilliance. After Devon Conway and Henry Nicholas walked away early, Daryl Mitchell and Will Young stitched a game-changing partnership.
After Young walked away, scoring 87 runs, Mitchell kept swinging on high. Completing a spectacular ton, he played an unbeaten knock of 131 runs in 117 balls. Adding to this, Glenn Phillips’ 25-ball 32 helped him to secure a 7-wicket victory.
With that victory, the three-match series has been levelled at 1-1. All eyes will be on Indore, where the third match will determine who takes the series crown.
