India star batter, Virat Kohli, missed the first ODI against England in Nagpur due to a knee injury, but that didn’t stop him from cheering his team from the dugout. Despite his absence from the playing XI, Kohli was actively involved, supporting his teammates as India secured a four-wicket victory in the series opener.
However, what caught everyone’s attention after the match was a lighthearted moment between Kohli and former England captain Kevin Pietersen. A video surfaced on social media showing the two engaged in a fun conversation at the dugout, with Pietersen bursting into laughter at Kohli’s hilarious antics.
The Nagpur ODI on February 8 was the first international match Kohli had missed since January 2022 due to injury. During the toss, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma revealed that Kohli had suffered a knee injury while traveling to Nagpur, leading the team management to rest him for the game.
Despite missing his star batter, India successfully chased down England’s target of 249 runs, thanks to brilliant half-centuries from Shubman Gill (87 runs), Axar Patel (52 runs) and Shreyas Iyer (59 runs) and with this victory, India took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
Virat Kohli’s Injury Update – Will He Play Second ODI?
Though Kohli participated in pre-match drills, he didn’t look as agile as usual, which hinted that something wasn’t right. This was his first injury-related absence in two years, making it clear that he was not sitting out by choice.
After the match, India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill confirmed that Kohli will be fit to play the second ODI in Cuttack on February 11 (Sunday). This news brought relief to Indian fans, who are eager to see him back on the field.
