There is no doubt that Virat Kohli is India’s biggest cricketing name of all time, and wherever he goes, the champion athlete receives a rousing reception, and it was no different when he arrived in Vadodara for the ODI series against New Zealand, starting on January 11. Since shifting his base to London, Kohli is hardly seen in India, and as a result, fans eagerly wait for his arrival.

The moment Kohli stepped out of the airport, there was a sea of fans eagerly waiting to get a glimpse of their star player, and that anticipation turned into frenzy as Kohli was surrounded by the fans, with his name echoing around the airport. Security tightened, phones were out as fans wanted to take a glimpse of him.

Virat Kohli struggled to make through to his car and for a brief period, the former captain had a frustrating look on his face as he was unable to go past the fans.

Not the first Kohli was mobbed by fans

Being famous can sometimes work against you, and Kohli has felt it many times, with one such incident taking place a couple of days ago. After his impressive performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, Kohli reached the Bengaluru airport and he was surrounded by large crowd even after tight security.

He was asked about his form, fans demanded selfies, and people also asked about his travel plans. He urged the crowd to slow down as he obliged the selfie request, and lookec cheerful throughout the interaction with the fans at the airport.

Kohli's stellar form heading into the ODI series

Kohli is having a dream ODI run heading into the New Zealand series. After registering back-to-back ducks against Australia, Kohli regained his midas touch by scoring a fifty in the SCG ODI, followed by successive tons against South Africa, and a fifty to close the series as he was awarded the Player of the series.

The legendary player finished the South Africa matches with 302 runs as he enters the Kiwi challenge with a newfound confidence after a strong showing in the last four ODI matches.
