Mumbai Indians’ decision to retain Hardik Pandya as captain for IPL 2025 appears justified as the all-rounder showcases ominous form in pre-season preparations. For the fans, Pandya’s recent net sessions at MI’s training camp have become a viral spectacle.

While the video released by MI on their social media handle oozed with raw power from Hardik's bat, it also signalled the destruction Pandya is about to bring in this season.

Pandya’s Swagger Returns in MI’s Viral Nets Video

The 31-year-old’s career has been a rollercoaster since his IPL debut in 2015. After leading Gujarat Titans, his INR 16.35 crore return to Mumbai Indians in 2024 sparked controversy but saw him leading the side.

A 16-second clip from MI’s social media captures Pandya dismantling bowlers with no-look slogs, wristy flicks, and step-out sixes. His signature no-look shot makes multiple appearances, each strike echoing his 'milestone mauler' carnage. 

Critics had questioned Pandya’s relevance after a modest IPL 2024 and an average of 18. However, his recent form suggest a resurgence.  MI coach Mahela Jayawardene’s faith in his captaincy now seems strategic, especially with Pandya’s death-overs bowling remaining a key asset.

As Mumbai Indians build around their retained core, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav, Pandya’s batting pyrotechnics signal intent. 

Hardik Pandya's Stellar IPL Career

Hardik Pandya has been a dynamic performer with the bat in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 137 matches, he has scored 2525 runs at an impressive strike rate of 145.62. He has been a reliable bowler as well often delivering crucial breakthroughs.

Pandya has been effective in the middle overs where in 137 matches, he has bowled 1418 deliveries, conceding 2150 runs while picking up 64 wickets at an average of 33.59.

MI To Face CSK On March 23

However, the first match against CSK will see a depleted MI side with Pandya ruled out from the first match and Bumrah missing a few initial matches due to the injury that he sustained during BGT 2024-25. 

Nevertheless, the Nita Ambani co-owned team will be looking forward to bagging their sixth IPL title victory in the mega-event that begins on March 22.
