In a scintillating comeback after a disappointing debut against West Indies in Guyana, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal entered the history books on Saturday in the fourth T20I in Florida.

Jaiswal emerges as youngest Indian opener with T20I fifty

Aged 21 years and 227 days, Jaiswal notched up a record-breaking half-century to become the youngest Indian opener to achieve this feat in T20 internationals.

Jaiswal's mesmerising innings helped India level the five-match series 2-2. In the process, he outdid Indian captain Rohit Sharma's 14-year-old record, who previously held this distinction when he hit a fifty against England in 2009 at 22 years and 41 days.

Rohit is followed by Ishan Kishan (22 years and 41 days vs England in 2009) and Ajinkya Rahane (23 years and 86 days vs England in 2011).

In the broader context, Virat Kohli holds the record as the youngest Indian opener to score a fifty in ODIs, while in Tests, the accolade goes to Prithvi Shaw, who achieved the record in 2018 against West Indies at 18 years and 329.

Coming to the game, the cricketing fraternity witnessed Jaiswal's batting masterclass as he displayed exceptional finesse and aggression. He signalled his intent from the outset, battering Obed McCoy with two crisp boundaries in the inaugural over.

This was merely the prelude, as Jaiswal rained boundaries on Jason Holder in the third over and displayed a medley of classic drives and innovative strokes.

The young prodigy remained unbeaten at 84 off a mere 51 deliveries, an innings filled with 11 boundaries and three sixes as India successfully chased the 17-run target set by the Windies. The fifth and final series decider will be played on Sunday at the same venue in Florida.
