India ended their Curse on March 9 after they beat New Zealand to win their first-ever ICC tournament on a Sunday. It was a day to remember as the Men in Blue broke several curses, such as not winning an ICC trophy with Mohammed Shami.

As Shami returned to the side, there were chatters that the right-arm seamer had never won an ICC trophy. However, the SRH silenced the critics and won his first-ever ICC trophy for India. While Shami had an off day and took just a solitary wicket for 74 runs, he had a mixed tournament, which started with a fifer against Bangladesh.

Shami Called 'Criminal' By Religious Leader

Shami too encountered several challenges throughout the tournament when he also met with a controversy right before the final. He had opted for an energy drink during the match that didn't go well with the religious leaders who slammed Shami's decision to not observe a 'Roza'.

The internet was divided over Shami's decision to not fast during the tournament. While there were allegations of Shami disobeying his religion, he silenced the doubters with a special act during the post-match celebration.

Shami Pays Respect By Stepping Aside During Champagne Celebration

When Rohit Sharma and the rest of the team were handed the trophy on the podium, the players celebrated with Champagne and popped several of them. However, Shami showed respect for his religion and avoided the celebration as alcohol is prohibited in Islam.

Shami enjoyed the celebration from a distance and joined the team once the champagne shower was over.

After the match, Kohli met Shami's mother, who had come to support her son. Virat won fans' hearts after he touched Shami's mother's feet and then proceeded to click photos with her.
