What Will Happen If Both SRH Vs PBKS, RR Vs KKR Get Washed Out? All Scenerio Explained!

The league stage set of IPL 2024 fixtures will conclude on May 19 with a double-header in Hyderabad and Guwahati. While hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will entertain a struggling Punjab Kings unit in the afternoon, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals will collide in the evening in a battle among the top two sides of the season.

Ahead of the double-header, here is a look at possible scenarios and how they can alter the course of the impending IPL 2024 playoffs.

May 19 double-header: IPL 2024 playoffs possibilities explained

Three of the four competing teams (SRH, KKR and RR) scheduled for May 19’s double-header have already qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs. While KKR is primed to finish at the top of the points table regardless of their outcome against Rajasthan Royals, the Rajasthan Royals and SRH franchises are yet to seal a top-two finish for themselves.

While KKR currently sits at the top of the IPL 2024 points table, followed by Rajasthan Royals (second) and SRH (at three); here is a look at all possible outcomes for the day of the double-header and how they can impact the fate of the impending playoffs:

  • If both SRH vs PBKS and RR vs KKR games get washed out: If both games get washed out due to bad weather, Rajasthan Royals will secure a top-two finish for themselves behind KKR while SRH will remain at third on the table with 15 points.
  • If SRH beats PBKS and RR vs KKR gets washed out/RR loses to KKR: If SRH manages to defeat Punjab Kings, the ‘Orange Army’ will move to 17 points. Rajasthan Royals will also get to 17 points if their match against KKR gets washed out. However, in such a scenario, SRH will secure a top-two finish on the IPL 2024 points table owing to their superior NRR. SRH’s 17 points will also help them topple the Rajasthan Royals if the latter straight-up loses to KKR in a full-fledged game, regardless of the margin.
  • If SRH loses to PBKS and RR defeats KKR/RR vs KKR gets washed out: If SRH loses to Punjab Kings on May 19, Pat Cummins and co. will remain at number three on the table regardless of Rajasthan Royals’ result against KKR.

The IPL 2024 playoffs will commence on May 21 with the first qualifier. The match will feature KKR (number one) taking on the number two side of the competition (RR or SRH depending on May 19 outcomes).

Similarly, the RCB will face the third-placed team (either RR and SRH depending on May 19 outcomes) in the Eliminator on May 22.
