The inaugural match of the Deodhar Trophy 2023, being held at the Cricket Association Stadium Puducherry Siechem Ground in Puducherry saw an extraordinary spectacle of fielding that left the audience spellbound.

Prabhsimran's superhuman catch left everyone stunned

North Zone wicket-keeper, Prabhsimran Singh, unleashed a moment of absolute brilliance, as he dived athletically to execute a stunning catch, leaving spectators in awe.

It all happened in the 39th over of the South Zone innings, bowled by Mayank Yadav. The pacer unleashed a swift, short ball that caught South Zone batsman Ricky Bhui off guard. Attempting to counter with an upper cut, Bhui found himself unable to make a solid connection, resulting in a thin edge off his bat.

With the ball veering off its initial trajectory, Prabhsimran, initially leaning left, found himself needing to shift quickly towards the right. Showcasing lightning-fast reflexes, the wicketkeeper threw himself to his right, elegantly diving mid-air to grab the ball, thereby stunningly dismissing Bhui for 31 runs off 39 balls.

Earlier in the day, South Zone, having elected to bat first after winning the toss, received a blistering start courtesy of openers Rohan Kunnummal and captain Mayank Agarwal, who put together a solid partnership of 117 runs in just 17.3 overs. Kunnummal was eventually dismissed for a 70 by Mayank Markande.

Agarwal and N Jagadeesan further steadied the ship with resilient half-centuries, scoring 72 and 64 respectively. Valuable knocks from Bhui and Arun Karthik ensured South Zone posted a competitive score of 303/8 in their 50 overs.

At the time of writing, North Zone are in trouble, tottering at 24 for 4, with rain spoiling the fun at the moment.
