Washington Freedom have roped in Ireland all-rounder Mark Adair as a replacement for injured Jason Behrendorff. The Irish cricketer would be part of the defending champions' squad for the remainder of MLC 2025.
The Australian pacer Behredoroff was ruled out of the tournament on June 16 due to an undisclosed injury without playing a single game in the season. However, they have found a worthy replacement in the form of Mark Adair who has been consistently delivering for Ireland over the years.
Mark Adair has 186 wickets in 137 T20 matches and is a handy batter lower down the order. This will be his first stint in Major League Cricket and would be looking to translate his international form on American shores. The Irishman also had an impressive stint in the ILT20 recently For Gujarat Giants where he picked 13 wickets in 10 games.
Mark Adair Set To Add More Depth In Washington Freedom's Bowling Attack
He would now join the likes of Saurabh Netravalkar and Ben Sears, adding more experience and depth to the Washington Freedom's bowling attack. The inclusion of Mark Adair also marks a significant step in the growth of Ireland cricket. A good performance from the all-rounder could pave the way for more opportunities to Irish cricketers in leagues across the globe.
The defending champions, Washington Freedom have a change in leadership this year with Glenn Maxwell leading the pack in the absence of Steve Smith. The right-handed batter was likely to play couple of games after WTC final, but a finger injury has ruled out that possibility.
Washington Freedom started off the season with a big loss of 123 runs as their bowlers leaked 269 runs. They made a strong comeback in the second game though and won the match comprehensively, something they would be looking to continue moving forward.
