Tanmay Srivastava, a former cricketer from India’s 2008 U-19 World Cup-winning team, has been officially announced as one of the umpires for IPL 2025. Srivastava played a crucial role in India’s U-19 victory under Virat Kohli’s captaincy and later represented teams like Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the IPL.
U-19 World Cup Hero Steps Onto IPL 2025 Field As Umpire
After retiring from professional cricket five years ago, Srivastava shifted his focus to umpiring and has been officiating in domestic matches. Now, he is set to take on a new challenge in the IPL.
The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association congratulated him, tweeting,
“A true player never leaves the field—just changes the game. Wishing Tanmay Srivastava the best as he dons a new hat with the same passion.”
Interestingly, Srivastava’s former U-19 captain, Virat Kohli, will be on the field for the opening match of IPL 2025.
Srivastava started his List A career in 2006, playing in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy. Unfortunately, his debut match didn’t go well, as he got out for a three-ball duck. However, he went on to have a decent List A career, scoring 1,728 runs in 44 matches at an impressive average of 44.3, including seven centuries.
In the IPL, Srivastava played for Kings XI Punjab during the 2008 and 2009 seasons but couldn’t make a big impact, scoring only eight runs in three innings. His last appearance as a player was in the 2022 Legends League, where he scored 81 runs in three innings.
