Virat Kohli showers praise on Nawaz for his game changing innings

Mohammad Nawaz's all-round effort helped Pakistan win a nail-biter against the arch-rivals India in the Super four game of the ongoing Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (September 4).

Nawaz was on song with the bat and ball as his all-round heroics made sure that Pakistan beat India in a thriller to hand the defending champions their first loss of this edition of the Asia Cup. 

Promoted up in the batting order in a run chase of 182, the left-handed batter held his nerves and smashed his T20I career-best- 42 off 20 balls laced with six boundaries and two maximums. With the ball, he picked the all-important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav while also keeping the scoring rate in check.

Kohli all praise for Nawaz

Speaking at the post-match conference, Virat Kohli hailed Nawaz's knock and termed his innings as the 'game changer'. Kohli admitted that the innings Nawaz played added pressure on the Men in Blue.

"His inning was a game changer for sure. The way he batted, it was very crucial and that added pressure on us. You expect either Babar (Azam) or (Mohammad) Rizwan to play a dependable knock and then their lower and middle order to finish."

Kohli remarked that Nawaz's innings was the difference maker in the end of a game that went down to the last over.

"They sent him up so they still had a deep lineup. He scored 42 odd runs, imagine if that had been what 15."
