England women's team batter Sophia Dunkley backs Charlotte Edwards to take over from Lisa Keightley as England Women's team head coach.

At the start of August this year, it was announced Lisa Keightley would be leaving her position as head coach of the England Women's team at the end of the season. Having replaced Mark Robinson at the start of 2020, Keightley decided to step down from her role following the upcoming home series against India.

Naturally, Edwards, who captained the team to three Ashes victories in 2008, 2013, and 2014, along with ODI and T20 World Cups in 2009, will be the front runner for the job. The ex-English women's cricketer turned coach in her coaching career won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy and the Charlotte Edwards Cup – the T20 tournament.

High praise for Edwards

Having played under Edwards' guidance for Southern Brave in the recently concluded The Hundred 2022, Dunkley said she has been amazing to work under and will be one of the prime contenders to fill the boots of Keightley.

"She's been amazing to work under. I think the environment which she creates and the values that she sets are amazing. Everyone is clear on what they're doing and what the plan is.

"There's a great balance between a good work ethic and also having fun, which is really important – and not taking ourselves too seriously when it doesn't go well. It's nice to be part of a fresh, different environment from what I'm used to – I can definitely learn a lot from her.

"Definitely from a personal perspective, I've loved working under her. She's a great coach and she gives a lot to all the teams that she works for. Personally, I'd love to work with Lottie as much as I can."
