An excellent 4-wicket haul from Kyle Mayers helped Barbados Royals beat St Lucia Kings comprehensively by 11 runs in a rain interrupted Match 6 of the Caribbean Premier League 2022 at Warner Park, St Kitts and Nevis.

St Lucia Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. After being asked to bat first, Royals got off to a scintillating start, scoring almost 10 per over in the powerplay. The opening duo of Rahkeem Cornwall (32) and Kyle Mayers (36) added 49 runs for the first wicket and Royals were 57 for 1 at the end of the powerplay. Amid all the actions, the rain gods caused an interruption and the Kings got some time to introspect in their bowling.

Following the resumption, Faf and his men managed to take 5 wickets during the middle-overs to limit Royals from 75 for 1 to 119 for 6 at the end of 16 overs.

Although the wickets kept falling at regular intervals, David Miller managed to hold one end and remained unbeaten at 15-balls 24. Joshua Bishop’s little cameo in the death overs helped the Royals to finish with a competitive total of 162 for 7 in 20 overs.

Mark Deyal was the pick of the bowlers for the Kings, who took 2 for 15 in his four overs quota.

Kyle Mayers took 4/4 against St Lucia in Match 6 of CPL 2022

While chasing the target of 163, it was a horrific start from the Kings as Kyle Mayers ran through their batting order, taking four wickets in his first two overs. The Kings were limited to 10 for 4 after the first four overs, before rain stopped the play once again and Faf du Plessis' men were left to chase down 93 runs from 30 balls.

After the resumption, needing 93 off 30, skipper du Plessis along-side Alzarri Joseph came all guns blazing and gave their best shot to achieve the unthinkable. However, despite the best of efforts, the Kings fell short by 11 runs and the Royals registered their second win of their campaign.

Kyle Mayers was easily the star of the second innings for his 4 wickets in his first two overs in the powerplay while giving away just 4 runs.

Brief Scores:

Barbados Royals: 162/7 (20)

Kyle Mayers 36(23), Rahkeem Cornwall 32(17);

St Lucia Kings: 91/4 (9)

Faf du Plessis 47(20), Alzarri Joseph 29(18);
