VIACOM18 Picks Up Major League Cricket 2023 Media Rights For India

In a landmark partnership, the Major League Cricket (MLC) have announced that Indian media giants VIACOM 18 will be partners for the inaugural edition's television and streaming in India. The multi-format deal will see the matches be televised on Sport18, while the streaming will be done on JioCinema, when the tournament begins on July 13 and will conclude on July 30.

The opening match will be played between Los Angeles Knight Riders and Texan Super Kings, both owned by Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings franchises, respectively.  Apart from LA and Texas, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcans, and Washington Freedom will be the other participating teams.

Like LA and Texas, the New York and Seattle franchises are owned by IPL teams - Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals - respectively, while the San Francisco and Washinton based-clubs have partnerships with Cricket New South Wales, and Cricket Victoria. 

In a statement, Hursh Shrivastava, Viacom18's Sports Head of Strategy, Partnerships & Acquisitions, and Vijay Srinivasan, co-founder of MLC, expressed their delight over the new association.

“JioCinema continues to change the landscape of sports consumption, and with Major League Cricket, fans will watch their favourite T20 cricketers and cheer for teams affiliated to their favourite franchisees. Indian viewers love T20 cricket, and we expect them to enjoy the action from the inaugural edition of the league across JioCinema and Sports18.”

A battery of former and current international stars will be in action in the MLC, like Kieron Pollard (MI New York captain), Rashid Khan, Trent Boult, Faf du Plessis (Super Giants skipper), Aaron Finch (Unicorns captain), Marcus Stoinis (Freedom skipper), Corey Anderson, Liam Plunkett, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Unmukt Chand, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu etc.
