Usman Khan's career in danger [Source: AFP Photo]
Usman Khan was one of the most promising batters in the Pakistan circuit, but it seems his Pakistan career could be over as the batter was not included in PCB's Central Contract list, which was released a couple of days ago. Moreover, the UAE Cricket Board has imposed a five-year ban on him, and this complicates things for him.
The batter came into prominence in 2017 after performing at the highest level for the Karachi Kings. However, limited opportunities forced him to move to the UAE, and there he honed his skills and became a popular figure. Usman Khan came back to Pakistan to feature in PSL 9, and he was an instant hit, as he slammed two centuries for Multan Sultans, and was the second highest run-getter after Babar Azam.
Things went downhill after PSL 9
As per Cricket Pakistan, After the PSL 9 season, Pakistan gave him a chance to play for his birth nation, an offer which he accepted as UAE cricket terminated his contract and slapped a five-year ban in 2024. After a successful PSL season, he was expected to deliver the goods, but the aggressive batter failed to deliver the goods.
Fans and experts in Pakistan expected Usman to replace Babar in the Pakistan team, but things got complicated as he crumbled under pressure, and could only score 213 runs in eight matches in PSL 10.
Last year, he was placed in Category D in PCB's Contract list, but after a string of disappointing performances, the batter was snubbed from the list this year. His career now faces uncertainty as the batter can't go back, and play for the UAE due to the ban imposed, and it seems Pakistan cricket has moved on from him. For Pakistan, Usman played 19 T20I matches, and could only register 239 runs.
