In a dramatic turn of events, on Tuesday, February 18, the United States of America (USA) recorded the lowest ever total successfully defended in a men's ODIs by defending a total of 122 runs against Oman in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2.

USA beat India's record

They beat the previous record of India’s 125 against Pakistan which came during the first match of the Rothmans Four-Nation Cup at Sharjah way back in 1985.

It was match 54 of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 between USA and Oman where the former managed a meagre 122 runs after being put to bat first. In reply, Oman failed to chase down the target as they got bowled out for just 65 runs on what looked like a pitch only for spin bowlers.

A total of 19 wickets fell to spinners in this game which is joint highest wickets taken by spinners in an ODI match. Additionally, a total of 9 bowlers, all spinners, bowled in the entire match, making it the first men's ODI in history which got completed without a single over being bowled by a fast bowler.

Nosthush Kenjige Decimated Oman's Batting

USA’s Nosthush Kenjige was the pick of the bowlers as the left-arm spinner took 5 for 11 in 7.3 and played a key role for his side, defending the low total. However, it was also the all-round brilliance of Milind Kumar, who scored an unbeaten 47 with the bat and took USA's total over the 100-run mark. Moreover, he came back and took 2 wickets with the ball, contributing to what was a special day for the Monank Patel-led side.

For Oman, Hammad Mirza, who came to bat at three, was the only batter who could score a double-digit score (29 off 43). Earlier, Shakeel Ahmed was the star with the ball as he broke the back of the USA's top-order and finished with 3 wickets for 20 runs in his 8.3 overs.
