England Lions and Somerset all-rounder, Tom Abell, has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series against Bangladesh scheduled for March this year. The all-rounder will miss the sub-continent tour due to a side injury, which he sustained during England Lions' tour to Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the month, when England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the squads for the Bangladesh series, Abell earned his maiden call-up for the national side, getting named in both ODI and T20I teams.

The 28-year-old got injured after bowling the first ball of his third over against Sri Lanka A in the 1st unofficial ODI at Colombo on Thursday. Later in the game, the right-hander didn't even come out to bat.

The English board has updated the all-rounder's injury, confirming that he will return home and saying no replacement will be named for either of the squads.

"Abell underwent a scan today after he suffered the injury while bowling against Sri Lanka A and is set to return home to begin his recovery," the ECB statement said.

The Taunton-born could have had a go time during his stay in Sri Lanka, where he could only smash a solitary fifty after six innings against the home team.

Under the leadership of Jos Buttler, England are slanted to play three ODIs and as many T20Is against the Bangla Tigers. The six-match series will begin with the ODI leg, starting from March 1, before the caravan shifts to its T20I fold.
