Bangladesh survived a death over scare thanks to a brilliant final over from Shoriful Islam to claim a tense 7-run win over a rampant United Arab Emirates unit in the 1st T20I in Dubai on Sunday.

Chasing 159, the Emirates nation rode on brilliant cameos from their lower-order to take the game to the final over after they had been reduced to 102-7 in the 14th over by the Mehidy Hasan-led Bangladesh attack.

Afzal Khan (25 off 17 deliveries) led UAE's revival and he was brilliantly supported by Meiyappan (12 off 9) and Junaid Siddiqui (11 off 9) as they clobbered timely boundaries to reduce the equation to 11 off the last over.

However, Shoriful (3-21 in 3.4) held his nerves as he dismissed Afzal and Junaid off consecutive deliveries to hand his side a jailbreak.

Earlier, opener Chirag Suri gave the UAE a decent start with a power-packed 39 off 24 deliveries but he kept losing his partners at the other end as Mustafizur and Mehidy combined to take 5 wickets between them.

Afif Hossain led Bangladesh's revival after a dreadful start

That Bangladesh were able to get to 158 after a horror start to their innings, was largely due to sensational 55-ball 77* from all-rounder Afif Hossain.

After the Sabir Ali-led UAE attack reduced the Asian 'Tigers' to 35/3 and then 77/5 inside 11 overs, Hossain led Bangladesh's revival with a dazzling knock, punctuated with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Hossain was brilliantly supported by keeper Nurul Hasan, who clobbered an unbeaten 25-ball 35* with 2 fours and as many sixes.

Afif was eventually adjudged the 'Player of the Match' for his clutch knock.
