Two-Time Ashes-Winning Captain to Part Ways With ECB Before Ashes 2023

In a major development, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that Andrew Strauss will step down from his role as Strategic Advisor and Chair of the Performance Cricket Committee in May. The two-time Ashes-winning captain is considered to be a highly respectable figure, who has propelled English cricket to new heights in a decade or so.

During his regime period, Strauss introduced sweeping reforms that led to an unprecedented revival of English cricket, specifically in limited-overs cricket.

However, much to his despair, his recommendations were firmly rejected by the country loyalists who viewed it as an act of demeaning domestic cricket for the national side's latest failure in Australia.

The 46-year-old stated that he had a memorable time with the ECB and had to quit due to his growing commitments outside the organisation.

"I've really enjoyed my time at the ECB and am proud of having contributed to a successful period for our England teams. With increasing commitments outside of the organisation, sadly I've decided it's time to step away from my current role. I wish the new Board all the very best as it continues in its mission to grow our game."

Strauss is expected to formally step down at the board's Annual General Meeting next month.

The ECB is currently seeking viable alternatives and have welcomed four new non-executive directors to the board: Penny Avis, Baroness Zahida Manzoor, Jennifer Owen Adams and Gareth Williams.

The ECB chief executive Richard Thompson thanked the former English skipper for his services to the board and indicated that they are in the process of implementing a number of his recommendations that surfaced from his impressive High Performance Review.

It is understood that the two-time Ashes-winning skipper won't be there with Ben Stokes' side as they take on the mighty Australian in the Ashes 2023 in the English summer.
