The ICC Champions Trophy is all set to take over the cricketing world after eight years. The tournament was last held in 2017 and was won by Pakistan. As the teams prepare for the tournament, Star Sports has planned a special show for the 2013 Champions Trophy winners, India. The show is called 'Unbeaten: Dhoni's Dynamites'.
Notably, India, led by their legendary skipper, MS Dhoni, won the 2013 edition of the Champions Trophy. It was a young team that was groomed under the leadership of Dhoni, and they went on to win the title, surprising the whole world. The greatest part of the campaign was that they defeated the hosts, England in the final to win the trophy.
The Scintillating Final
The final was played in Birmingham on 23rd June 2013. India batted first in a match that was curtailed by rain and was a 20 overs per side affair. Virat Kohli scored 43 runs on a tough track and helped India reach a fighting total of 129/7 at the end of their quota of overs.
In the chase, England struggled at 48/4 when Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara got together. The duo had a great partnership going and it looked like India would lose match.
MS Dhoni's Trap Wins India The Trophy
MS Dhoni, being the spontaneous leader, persisted with Ishant Sharma, who was leaking runs on the day. The pacer picked up two important wickets and brought the team back into the game. Besides this, Dhoni also had a trick up his sleeve of keeping Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin for the last two overs of the match. The trick worked, and India won the title.
The decision by the broadcasters to have a special show for the 2013 champions has been received well by the Indian fans. It was an important event in the history of Indian cricket, as after that, the nation suffered a trophy drought of 11 years, which ended in 2024 during the T20 World Cup.
